Hydraulic scrap balers are applied in thickness less than 6mm steel mills, recycling plants, ferrous &non-ferrous smelting industry to press scrap metal (steel, copper, aluminum, stainless steel, discarded automobiles, etc) into acceptable furnace charges in shapes of cuboids, cylinders & octagons. A flipout baler is a hydraulic scrap baler where the chamber door flips open to release the finished bale at the front. It is the simplest discharge arrangement available, with fewer moving parts than a pushout machine, which makes it a robust choice for yards running mixed light scrap.

How the discharge works

Once the compression cycle is complete, the front door of the chamber releases and swings clear, and the bale is discharged forward. Because there is no ejection ram, there is one less hydraulic circuit and one less wear point in the machine. For an operator whose priority is uptime rather than layout flexibility, that simplicity is the main argument for this configuration.

Cuboid, cylindrical and octagonal bales, sized so they can be charged directly. Shape is determined by the chamber configuration selected at order stage, so it is worth confirming what your furnace or your buyer prefers before specifying.

Why the pump choice matters

Bale density is only useful if it is consistent. A buyer paying for a specified density will reject or rerate a load that varies. Inclined axial piston pumps hold pressure steadily through the compression stroke, which is what produces the same bale on the five hundredth cycle as on the first.

Chamber wear

The chamber lining takes more punishment than any other surface in a baler, since abrasive scrap is dragged across it under full compression on every cycle. Wear resistant lining plates are a replaceable consumable protecting the structure behind them, and keeping them in condition is the single most effective maintenance habit on the machine.

Choosing between baler types

A flipout baler suits front discharge with the simplest possible mechanism. A side pushout suits layouts where the collection point is alongside. A front pushout gives controlled forward ejection. A four compression machine produces the highest density, and a continuous baler suits high volume consistent feed. The decision is usually made on yard layout and required density rather than on the press itself.
